The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Sultan Iskandar Muda Class I Meteorological Station in Banda Aceh has issued an early warning regarding the potential for extreme weather hitting parts of the Aceh region over the next two days. The public is urged to be alert to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.

BMKG Aceh forecaster, Dedi, explained that these adverse weather conditions are predicted to persist until Friday, 5 June 2026. This phenomenon is triggered by atmospheric dynamics that support significant growth of rain clouds in the westernmost region of Sumatra.

BMKG emphasises that the public should be wary of moderate to heavy intensity rainfall, which often occurs suddenly from late afternoon into the night. This is typically preceded by intense heating during the daytime.

“We urge the community to always be careful when engaging in outdoor activities, especially when driving. This bad weather can trigger secondary impacts such as strong winds, floods, and even landslides,” Dedi stated.

The public is expected to continue monitoring weather information updates through official BMKG channels to anticipate the risks of hydrometeorological disasters in their respective areas.
