Extra holidays for declining GNP?
Extra holidays for declining GNP?
From Kompas
Granting extra holidays while the country's gross national
product (GNP) is declining is something that common sense cannot
accept. Decreasing income should be offset by harder work instead
of more holidays.
The government has decided that religious holidays falling on
Sundays will be shifted to Mondays to give people extra days off.
By working harder, a nation can make products competitive on
the international market so that the GNP will rise according to
the standards of advanced countries.
In this case, the minister of trade and industry should be
involved in evaluating the downtrend in productivity as a result
of less working hours, and a decision to have fewer holidays
should be made in a presidential decree. Those who have their own
businesses are certainly free to enjoy holidays.
