Extortion Syndicate Forces Civil Servant to Show Bank Balance Before Fatal Fall
A civil servant from the National Land Agency (BPN) in Nias, Apriaman Lase (27), died after jumping from the 12th floor of an apartment in Medan following a dispute with two women he met through a dating application. The suspects, identified as FR (31) and JS (29), allegedly forced the victim to show his bank account balance during the altercation.
According to the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Medan Metropolitan Police, AKBP Adrian Risky, the victim initially contacted one of the women via the MiChat application on 10 July 2026, around 3.30 a.m. local time, and invited her to his apartment. However, the woman, FR, arrived accompanied by her friend, JS. Upon meeting, the victim refused to have sexual relations with FR because her appearance did not match her profile photo, and he chose to be with JS instead.
Afterwards, a dispute arose over the payment amount. The two suspects demanded an additional payment of IDR 4.5 million, which the victim refused due to the large sum. The suspects then pressured the victim and forced him to show his bank balance on his mobile phone. The victim, feeling cornered in the room where the balcony was only about a metre from the door, eventually jumped from the 12th floor and lost his life.
