A resident identified as DP was extorted by a group of men in Sukamanah Village, Rajeg, Tangerang Regency. The perpetrators posed as police officers. The incident was reported to the Tangerang Police on Wednesday, 3 June 2026. Police have now arrested two suspects, identified as JR (39) and MT (39). “We immediately followed up on the report by conducting an investigation and have now detained six suspects,” said Tangerang Police Chief Commissioner Andi Muhammad Indra Waspada Amirullah in a statement to reporters on Thursday (25/6/2026). The two suspects were arrested at their respective homes in the Tigaraksa area, Tangerang Regency. Following further investigation, police arrested five additional suspects, namely MTB (34), JA (38), S (40), and YS (47), on Friday (19/6). The extortion began when the victim DP was returning home from a minimarket and was intercepted by the suspects, who were travelling on a motorcycle and in a car. The suspects approached the victim and claimed to be police officers. The victim was then forced into the car and compelled to hand over his ATM card and PIN. The suspects subsequently withdrew Rp 7.9 million from an ATM using the victim’s card. “The victim was then dropped off on the road. His motorcycle and ATM card were returned,” Indra added. Police are continuing their investigation and pursuing other suspects. Indra Waspada urged the public not to easily trust individuals claiming to be police officers without being able to present valid identification and official assignment letters. The public is also advised to immediately report to the nearest police station or through the police complaints service if they encounter suspicious activity by individuals claiming to be law enforcement officers. “We are continuing to develop this case. We are committed to taking firm action against any criminal acts that harm the public,” Indra Waspada concluded.
