Extortion Rampant in West Java, DPRD Urges Officials to Take Firm Action Against Perpetrators
The West Java Provincial DPRD has requested that all standby personnel be deployed across tourist destinations in West Java province. This measure aims to safeguard the security and comfort of tourists, who are expected to surge during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah holiday.
Deputy Chairman of the West Java Provincial DPRD, MQ Iswara, reminded the public not to neglect safety factors while travelling, especially in areas prone to natural disasters. Additionally, tourists should remain vigilant by continuously monitoring weather conditions before and during their journeys.
He stated that monitoring weather conditions is essential to avoid potential risks such as landslides, floods, or extreme weather. Furthermore, officials have been urged to enhance their preparedness.
“The public must be cautious and check the weather conditions. Do not let the holiday end in something undesirable,” he told reporters on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
He requested that standby personnel be placed at tourist hotspots predicted to experience a visitor influx. Officials are not only to focus on managing tourist traffic but also to ensure environmental security, including anticipating potential disruptions such as illegal levies (pungli).
“Personnel must be on alert to ensure tourists feel safe and comfortable. Do not let pungli tarnish the image of West Java’s tourism,” he said.
He noted that West Java is one of the main destinations for tourists during the Eid holiday, with various attractions ranging from the Puncak area, Ciwidey, Lembang, Ciater, Pangandaran beach, and the South Java coastal route. Synergy between local government, security apparatus, tourism managers, and local residents is deemed key to creating an orderly and conducive holiday atmosphere.
