Bekasi - A man with the initials RR became a victim of extortion when perpetrators claiming to be from a leasing company stopped him while he was passing through Jalan Raya Siliwangi, Bojong Menteng, Rawalumbu District, Bekasi City, on Thursday (26/2/2026) around 16:00 WIB.

“The perpetrators were just pretending to be from the leasing company. It turned out that the vehicle was already fully paid off and the BPKB was in the victim’s possession,” said the Bekasi City Metro Police Chief, Kombes Pol Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, during a press conference at the Bekasi City Metro Police Headquarters on Friday (27/3/2026).

Kusumo explained that the incident began when the victim was passing through the location. Suddenly, the victim was cornered by three motorbikes carrying six perpetrators.

The perpetrators then stopped the victim and claimed that the vehicle was still in arrears with the leasing payments. They claimed they would secure the motorbike.

“However, these people pretending to be from the leasing company did not care and they also threatened with violence,” said Kusumo.

Under pressure, the victim eventually handed over his motorbike to the perpetrators.

Of the six perpetrators, the police have only managed to arrest two, while the other four are still on the wanted list (DPO).

“Two perpetrators named AP and RS have been arrested. The other four, AR, DE, GU, and DA, are still DPOs,” revealed Kusumo.

After successfully seizing the victim’s vehicle, the perpetrators then sold the motorbike in the Cileungsi area, Bogor Regency.

The victim himself reported the incident to the Bekasi City Metro Police on 28 February 2026, which was immediately followed up by the police.

For their actions, the perpetrators AP and RS are charged with Article 482 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning criminal extortion with a maximum penalty of nine years in prison.

“Against the perpetrators AP and RS, who are strongly suspected of committing the criminal act of extortion with a maximum penalty of nine years in prison,” said Kusumo.

Kusumo also urged the public to be more vigilant against similar modus operandi that impersonate leasing companies.

“This is a modus operandi that has been carried out several times. We urge the public to be careful and report immediately to the nearest police,” he said.
