Extortion Case: KPK Finds Irregularities in Conversations Between Police Officer Suspect and His Father
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has discovered the use of an automatic disappearing message feature (timer) in conversations between suspect Setya Budi Dias and his father during the analysis of mobile phones seized in the investigation of alleged extortion within the Pemalang Regency Government. Acting Director of Investigations at the KPK, Achmad Taufpect Husein, stated at the KPK Red and White Building in Jakarta on Friday that this feature causes messages in a conversation to be automatically deleted after a specific period. Regarding the conversations between DIS, the son, and LBS, the team found and analysed within the mobile phone that the ‘timer’ feature was consistently utilised. According to Taufik, investigators view the use of such a feature in conversations between a child and a parent as an irregularity, based on the analysis of the seized electronic evidence. He also noted that the suspect’s conversations with other parties did not utilise similar features.
