Extension Grace Period for Driver's Licences Begins Today, See the Regulations

SOLO, KOMPAS.com - Holders of a driving licence (SIM) whose validity period expires on a national holiday will receive a dispensation. Thus, the issuance of a SIM can be carried out using the extension procedure even if it has passed the validity period. Ahead of the long holiday for Nyepi Day and Eid al-Fitr, SIM issuance and renewal services were temporarily suspended. This policy was implemented to align with the national holiday schedule. “The dispensation is given from Wednesday, 25 - 31 March 2026, for SIM holders whose validity expires on 18 - 24 March 2026, and they can carry out the SIM extension during that grace period using the extension mechanism,” said Prianggo to KOMPAS.com recently. The service applies generally across various regions. Both SIM services at police offices, shopping centres, and mobile SIM services follow the national holiday schedule. If the SIM owner is late in utilising that dispensation period, the procedure will revert to making a new SIM. Therefore, starting today, the public can begin renewing their SIMs so that the process does not have to start over or make a new SIM. As additional information, SIM processing can be done within or outside the holder’s residential area.
