Extending Ceasefire, Trump Says Iranian Government is Divided

US President Donald Trump has announced the extension of the ceasefire with Iran. Trump also stated that the current Iranian government is divided.

According to detikNews, although announcing the ceasefire extension, Trump also said that the US military will continue the policy of blockading Iranian ports.

“I have directed our military to continue the blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and capable,” Trump said, as reported by Al Jazeera on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

It is known that the initial US-Iran ceasefire was implemented on 7 April and was set to end today before being extended by Trump. Trump now says this ceasefire extension is without a time limit.

“Therefore, it will extend the ceasefire until their proposal is submitted and discussions are resolved one way or another,” Trump stated.

On the other hand, Trump also alluded to the current Iranian government being divided. According to Trump, the US is still waiting for the Iranian government to attend further negotiations in Pakistan.

“Based on the fact that the Iranian Government is very divided, which is not surprising, and at the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, we have been asked to postpone our attack on the Iranian state until the leaders and their representatives can submit a unified proposal,” Trump said.
