Express train derails in Kendal

KENDAL, Central Java: An executive train, the Argo Anggrek, traveling between Jakarta and Surabaya was derailed early in the morning on Friday in Alas Roban area, in Kendal regency.

No fatalities were reported in the accident.

Spokesman for the state railway company overseeing Central Java and Yogyakarta, Suprapto, said one car and the car housing the generator skidded off the tracks and crashed.

"The two cars have been detached and the executive train was able to continue its journey to Surabaya at 5 a.m." he said.

He said the incident did not disrupt traffic on the north coast railway. An investigation is being conducted into the accident, he added. -- JP
