Exposed! Pilot Paid Rp220 Million Per Trip to Smuggle Ecstasy into Indonesia

Customs at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport have addressed the drug smuggling case involving a Malaysian pilot. Hengky Tomuan Parlindungan Aritonang, Head of the Soekarno-Hatta Type C Customs Main Service Office, stated that the smuggling was carried out by the pilot, who was reportedly paid 50,000 ringgit (approximately Rp220.55 million) per delivery.

According to the Malaysian pilot’s confession, the payment was provided for each trip involving the narcotics. Hengky noted that the perpetrator utilised the ‘special treatment’ privileges afforded to aircraft crews worldwide to bypass standard scrutiny. This specific procedure, where crew members use different check-in lanes than regular passengers, was exploited by the syndicate as a perceived safe method for smuggling.

Hengky described the case as unique and unexpected, noting that the syndicate had successfully infiltrated aviation-level operations. The incident involved a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Soekarno-Hatta (Malaysia Airlines MH727). During a baggage inspection, customs officers grew suspicious and discovered 14 packages of ecstasy. Subsequent investigations revealed a total of 70,114 pills, weighing approximately 25 kg.
