Exposed in Military Court, Idea to Splash Andrie Yunus Called for a "Practical" Method
A shocking confession was delivered by Lieutenant One Budhi Hariyanto Widhi during the trial concerning the acid splashing incident against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus at the Military Court II-08 in Jakarta on Wednesday, 13 May 2026. Before the panel of judges, Budhi admitted that he was the first to propose the splashing action against Andrie, reasoning that it was faster than resorting to a beating. “So that it would be quicker and more practical,” Budhi stated during the proceedings. The admission emerged as the Military Prosecutor delved into the origins of the plan to attack Andrie Yunus. Budhi said the idea arose spontaneously after he watched a viral video of the interruption at the meeting discussing revisions to the TNI Law at the Fairmont Hotel on 11 March 2026. At the time, Budhi was at the soldiers’ mess and admitted to becoming emotionally inflamed after seeing Andrie’s actions in the video. Moreover, according to him, Andrie had entered what was considered a closed meeting. “I felt annoyed. Annoyed also at Andrie Yunus’s behaviour and actions forcing his way into the closed meeting in that video,” he said. The trial also revealed that Budhi had prepared the liquid to be used in the splashing action. Initially, he only took used battery acid from a workshop. But deeming the amount insufficient, Budhi then sought another liquid to mix in. That search led him to a safe that was unlocked. “I saw the safe was unlocked. In the end, I opened it,” he said. Inside that safe, Budhi found a rust-cleaning liquid that he had previously seen used to clean vehicle engines around January. “There was a bottle containing liquid that about a month earlier in January I had seen used to clean vehicle engines,” he said. That liquid was then mixed into a tumbler already containing the battery acid. Nevertheless, Budhi denied any deliberate planning when mixing the two liquids. “There was no idea. Just spontaneity,” Budhi stated. Not only that, Budhi also admitted to never considering the impact of the liquid mixture on the victim’s body. Yet, in a previous hearing, it was revealed that battery acid can damage fabric and cause itching.
