Explosions Heard in Iranian Cities After US Attack, Several Civilians Wounded

The United States military has launched a new attack on Iran in the Strait of Hormuz region. Explosions were heard in several Iranian cities, resulting in a number of civilian injuries. According to CNN International, Iranian state media reported the sound of explosions in the southern region of Iran on Wednesday (8/7/2026). Several blasts were heard in the port city of Bandar Abbas, the city of Sirik, and on Qeshm Island. A number of projectiles reportedly struck a commercial dock in Sirik, a fishing pier in the village of Ziarat, and civilian fishing vessels in Bandar Abbas. Iranian state broadcaster IRIB stated that a telecommunications tower in Bandar Abbas was also targeted in the attack. According to IRIB, several people were injured by shrapnel from the strike on the Sirik dock. The US military had announced the latest strikes on Iranian territory on Tuesday local time. The attack followed Iran’s launch of missiles at several commercial ships transiting the strait. ‘This US strike is a response to Iran’s attacks on three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz and is intended to impose severe consequences for targeting and attacking commercial shipping,’ a US Central Command statement said, as reported by AFP. ‘Iran’s demonstrated aggression is unjustified, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire,’ the statement added. Iran has also responded to the latest US attack. The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that the action is evidence of repeated violations of the memorandum of understanding by the US. Iran asserted it will take decisive steps in response to the attack. ‘Iran issues a stern warning regarding the consequences of America’s violation of the agreement, and will take decisive steps to protect its national interests and security,’ the Iranian Foreign Ministry statement said, as uploaded to Telegram by IRIB News.
