Explosion in Purwakarta Kills One Person

One person has been reported dead following an explosion that destroyed a building materials shop, residential houses, and a mosque in the Wanayasa District, Purwakarta Regency, West Java, on Sunday (12/7). Purwakarta Police Chief AKB I Dewa Putu Gede Anom Danujaya confirmed the incident but stated that his team could not yet explain the primary source of the explosion in detail. “It is true that an explosion occurred today at a building materials shop in Wanasari Village, Wanayasa, Purwakarta. We are still coordinating with the West Java Police bomb disposal team regarding the cause of the explosion,” he said. He conveyed that the police could only announce the cause of the explosion based on the results of the crime scene investigation. However, it has been confirmed that the explosion resulted in one fatality, believed to be an employee of the building materials shop. Meanwhile, the sound of the explosion, which was suspected to have originated from a building materials shop in Wanasari Village, Wanayasa, Purwakarta, on Sunday morning, was quite loud. Local residents reported that the sound of the explosion was loud enough to be heard up to a radius of more than three kilometres. The explosion not only destroyed a building materials shop but also resulted in one death and damaged four residential houses, some of which collapsed. A mosque located directly across the street was also affected by the force of the blast. The police are currently conducting an intensive investigation, including examining several eyewitnesses, to gather evidence which will later be synchronised with the results of the crime scene investigation.
