An explosion occurred at the Grand Polonia luxury housing complex in Medan Polonia District, Medan, on Monday (20/7) afternoon. The incident caused damage to at least five houses. Medan Polonia Sub-district Head Alfi Pane stated that the event took place around 4 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. The house suspected to be the source of the explosion suffered severe damage. “The incident happened around 4 p.m. WIB. One house exploded, but the surrounding houses were also affected,” Alfi said when contacted by CNNIndonesia.com. According to him, the impact of the explosion not only damaged the main building but also several houses on the left and right sides of the location. Several parts of the buildings were damaged due to the explosion. “In total, around four to five units were affected. There are collapsed canopies, damaged zinc roofs, and several walls were blown out due to the explosion,” he stated. As of now, the exact cause of the explosion is not yet known. Police officers and related teams are still conducting an examination at the scene to uncover the source of the blast. “I have not received any information regarding the cause. The police are already here, everything is complete,” he explained. Alfi also admitted that he has not yet received information regarding the identity of the owner of the house that was the centre of the explosion. Furthermore, his office is still waiting for official data regarding possible casualties. “We also do not know yet whether there are any victims. Earlier there was information that there might still be people inside the house, but we are waiting for the results of the officers’ examination,” he said.
