Explosion Heard Before Fire Engulfs Kebayoran Lama Market

A resident reported hearing an explosion before a fire broke out on Jalan Kramat I, near Pasar Kebayoran Lama in Grogol Selatan, on Tuesday evening. “I heard an explosion at first, then eventually the fire started,” said Arya (33) to reporters at the scene near Pasar Kebayoran Lama, Jakarta. A total of 28 units and 185 personnel have been deployed to extinguish the fire. Arya suspects the fire originated from a medicine factory in the area. “It seems to be from the medicine factory,” he said. The South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) received the fire report at 6.48 p.m. Western Indonesia Time and immediately began firefighting operations at 6.57 p.m. Personnel are still working to extinguish the fire, which is believed to have started in a storage warehouse. “The situation is yellow, or cooling down,” an official stated. South Jakarta Gulkarmat is still collecting data regarding casualties, injuries, the cause, and estimated losses. Based on observations at the location, a number of South Jakarta Gulkarmat personnel were extinguishing the fire. Police also assisted in managing traffic around the congested area, as many residents gathered to watch the firefighting process.
