Police have revealed the cause of the explosion that occurred during excavation works on Jalan Fatmawati Raya, South Jakarta, on Monday (8/6) morning. Cilandak Police Chief, Commissioner Gusprihatin Zen, stated that the incident began when two project workers were digging for a clean water pipe channel (PDAM). Zen explained that during the excavation process, the workers allegedly struck a PLN high-voltage cable. “It turns out there was a PLN cable there. It hit the breaker. It was a high-voltage cable, and it exploded there,” he told reporters. He noted that the explosion occurred at approximately 09:30 WIB. As a result of the blast, two workers, identified by the initials H and R, sustained facial injuries. “They have been taken directly to the Fatmawati Hospital emergency room,” he explained. Furthermore, Zen mentioned that the excavation process has been temporarily halted. Officers have visited the site to conduct a crime scene investigation and examine several witnesses.
