Explosion Devastates Luxury Homes in Medan's Grand Polonia Estate

A powerful explosion occurred in the upscale Grand Polonia housing estate in Polonia District, Medan. Several houses were reported to have been completely destroyed.

Based on observations at the scene on Monday (20/7/2026), approximately three houses were affected by the blast. One of them suffered severe damage. The damaged house, which was white, had its building materials collapse and scatter across the ground. Meanwhile, the house directly opposite it also appeared damaged, though its condition was not as severe as the one facing it.

A construction worker named Ali stated that the incident occurred around 4 p.m. local time. At the time, he was working on a house next to the one that was most heavily destroyed. Ali suddenly heard an extremely loud explosion. “I was installing tiles. Suddenly, there was a sound, a tremendous sound, and a strong vibration,” Ali said.
