Explosion at Semarang's Candi Industrial Estate: One Dead, Seven Suffer Burns
An explosion involving a production machine occurred at a factory located in the Candi Industrial Estate, Semarang, Central Java, on Wednesday (1/7). One person was reported dead in the incident. Police are still investigating the cause of the explosion. “One person died, and seven other workers suffered burns,” said Ngaliyan Police Chief Kompol Aliet Alphard. He explained that the tragic incident at the PT Raw Botanical Nusantara factory happened at around 09.56 WIB. The initial suspicion, he said, is that the explosion originated from a sterilisation tube in the production room. “The tube exploded, then caught fire. The explosion caused damage to the factory roof,” he said. Firefighters and police officers immediately arrived at the location after receiving information about the incident. Aliet stated that the Semarang Police Forensic Identification Unit (Inafis) had processed the crime scene and placed a police line at the location. “The factory’s production output is still being investigated, because its products are exported,” he said. According to him, the factory is temporarily closed and has ceased operations during the investigation process. He added that the subsequent investigation will be handled by the Semarang Metropolitan Police to determine whether there are any elements of criminal violation.
