Explosion at Semarang's Candi Industrial Estate: One Dead, Seven Suffer Burns

An explosion involving a production machine occurred at a factory located in the Candi Industrial Estate, Semarang, Central Java, on Wednesday (1/7). One person has been reported dead in the incident.

Police are currently investigating the cause of the explosion. “One person has died, and seven other workers sustained burns,” said Ngaliyan Police Chief, Commissioner Aliet Alphard, as quoted by Antara.

He explained that the unfortunate incident at the PT Raw Botanical Nusantara factory occurred at approximately 09:56 WIB. Initial suspicions suggest the explosion originated from a sterilisation tank located in the production room.

“The tank exploded and then caught fire. The explosion was powerful enough to cause damage to the factory roof,” he said.

Firefighters and police officers arrived at the scene immediately after receiving information about the incident. Aliet stated that the Inafis team from the Semarang City Police has conducted a crime scene investigation and cordoned off the area with police tape.

“The factory’s production output is still being assessed, as the products are intended for export,” he added.

According to Aliet, the factory has been temporarily closed and operations have ceased while the investigation is ongoing. He further noted that the subsequent investigation will be handled by the Semarang City Police to determine whether any criminal violations occurred.
