A large explosion occurred at the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) in Mojokerto Puri Medali, causing the building’s roof to collapse and sparking a major fire.

The SPPG explosion in Mojokerto was also reported to have injured five people. Three of the victims suffered serious burns.

SPPG Mojokerto Puri Medali security guard Bagianto (62) said the three burn victims were technicians who were repairing a problem with the LPG gas. They were positioned at the LPG area in front of the portioning room.

“Three people suffered burns, the gas refill technicians. The condition of the three people is 80 percent burns, the most severe being Mr Edi, who owns the gas and is also a technician, with around 90 percent burns,” he told reporters at the location in Medali Hamlet/Village, Puri, Mojokerto, on Thursday (13/8).

The security guard from Kedungsari, Gunung Gedangan, Magersari, Mojokerto City, explained that when the explosion occurred, there were 13 people inside the SPPG. They were nine SPPG volunteers in the preparation section, plus three gas technicians.

“It was refilled yesterday, perhaps there was a problem with the gas not coming out, so it was repaired by the three technicians,” he explained.

According to information gathered by detikJatim, the three gas technicians who suffered burns are currently being treated at two different hospitals. One person is at RSI Sakinah in Sooko, Mojokerto, and two victims are at RS Gatoel in Mojokerto City.

The burn victims are Piter (36) from Porong, Sidoarjo, who suffered around 63 percent burns; Edi Suyanto (55), a resident of Kalijaring Hamlet, Mikirip Village, Jetis, Mojokerto; and Kwin Lan (48), a resident of Clangap Hamlet, Mlirip Village, Jetis, Mojokerto.

In addition, two SPPG Mojokerto Puri Medali volunteers were also injured in the explosion, namely Maulin Nikmah (35) and Robiatul Adawyah (33), residents of Medali Hamlet/Village.

Both suffered head injuries after being struck by the ceiling of the preparation room. They are now undergoing treatment at RSI Sakinah.

“My head was hit by the ceiling of the room that collapsed. Now my head is dizzy and my back also hurts,” said Robiatul.

The SPPG explosion in Mojokerto occurred on Thursday evening (13/8) at around 9:00 PM WIB. The force of the explosion caused the roofs of four rooms to collapse: the portioning room, the omprengan (meal box) room, the office, and the meeting room.

The SPPG explosion in Mojokerto was also followed by a major fire. The flames burned the upper part of the portioning room and the omprengan room. The fire was extinguished by two fire engines at around 10:30 PM WIB.
