Explosion at Gunung Putri Padel Court Damages School Building
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR – A gas explosion at the canteen of a padel court damaged five classrooms at SDN Ciangsana 03 in Gunung Putri, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Thursday morning (9/4/2026), without causing any casualties. Bogor Regency Education Office Head Rusliandy in Cibinong stated that the incident occurred around 05:15 WIB at the padel court canteen located next to the school. The explosion is believed to have originated from a 25-kilogram LPG cylinder that detonated while school activities were not in session.
He confirmed that no students or educators were present at the location during the incident, thus avoiding any injuries or fatalities. “Alhamdulillah, the incident happened outside school hours, so there were no casualties. However, several classrooms were affected,” said Rusliandy.
According to initial reports, the explosion caused damage to the school fence spanning approximately 15 metres on the right side, as well as the wall in the second-floor staircase area. Additionally, three classrooms on the first floor sustained damage, while on the second floor, two classrooms and one laboratory were impacted, including broken windowpanes and damaged window frames.
The school signboard was also damaged, and cracks were found in the school field area due to the explosion’s vibrations. Gunung Putri Subdistrict officials received the incident report around 05:20 WIB and immediately conducted an inspection with relevant parties, including school officials, the Ciangsana Destana, and the local Babinsa.
As an initial response, the affected areas, particularly on the second floor, have been temporarily closed, and damaged classrooms are not permitted for use. The Bogor Regency Education Office has also decided to suspend in-person learning activities at SDN Ciangsana 03 temporarily and shift them to online learning for two days.
Subsequently, the local government will conduct a thorough technical inspection of the building’s condition and prepare repair measures to ensure that learning activities can resume safely.
