Explosion at Grand Polonia Luxury Home, 4 Trapped and 2 Injured

A large explosion occurred at a luxury home in the Grand Polonia housing complex in Medan on Monday (20/7) afternoon. As a result of the incident, four people are reported to still be trapped under the building rubble.

Medan City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak stated that the explosion originated from the luxury house at Number 3B. He said four people remain trapped inside the home. Meanwhile, two other residents were found alive.

“Based on the data we received at the time of the incident, there were six people inside the house. Of those six, a man was successfully evacuated, and a toddler is currently being treated at one of the hospitals,” Calvijn said at the scene.

Calvijn explained that as of Monday evening, the search and evacuation process was still ongoing to locate the four other victims believed to be buried under the building materials.

“Then the other four, we pray that the evacuation we are carrying out yields results. These four people consist of the homeowner’s wife and three domestic workers. We ask for your prayers,” he said.

Calvijn added that based on preliminary data collection, no other victims have been found outside of the house’s residents.

“So far, no other victims have been discovered besides the occupants of the house,” he stated.

To speed up the search process, a number of joint personnel have been deployed to the location. The teams involved consist of Medan City Firefighters, Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob), Medan City Police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and medical workers.

Officers have also brought in heavy equipment to help clear the collapsed building debris. The evacuation process is still ongoing, and the area around the location has been cordoned off with police line.
