CIPUTAT — Police officers removed two body bags from the site of an explosion at a shop-house in the Cimanggis Market area of Ciputat on Wednesday (14 October 2026). Several injured people were also evacuated to hospital for medical treatment.

The information was provided by Heri, 46, a coconut seller at Cimanggis Market who witnessed the explosion. He said it occurred about 15 minutes after the Maghrib prayer.

Heri said he did not know the exact number of casualties, but saw officers remove two body bags from the scene. Several injured people were also taken to hospitals in the Ciputat area.

“The explosion was enormous, like a bomb. I jumped in shock and ran. Fortunately, it was not directed towards me,” Heri said, recounting the incident.

According to Heri, the explosion came from the rear of a shop-house in the market. The fire then spread to the front and side of the building, burning several parts of the site.

A box van was also seen gutted by fire nearby.

As this report was being prepared, the cause of the explosion had not been established. The suggestion that it originated at a Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) had also not been confirmed. It was not known whether the blast began in the kitchen or the warehouse area.
