Explosion at Candi Industrial Estate Semarang Kills One, Destroys Production Room

A cylinder explosion at the PT Raw Botanical Nusantara factory in the Candi Industrial Estate (KIC), Ngaliyan, Semarang, has killed one person. The factory sustained severe damage as a result of the blast, which is suspected to have occurred in a sterilisation cylinder.

Based on observations at the scene, a significant portion of the factory area was badly damaged by the explosion. Most of the roof in the production room appeared collapsed, with steel frames buckled and corrugated metal sheets strewn about.

The floor of the production room was littered with debris, including pieces of metal sheeting, iron frames, shattered glass, and destroyed building materials. Puddles of water mixed with mud and material residue covered parts of the floor following the firefighting operation. Sacks of raw materials were also torn open, spilling their green contents.

Cracks were visible in several sections of the two-storey building’s walls. A number of doors and frames were also dislodged from their positions. In other rooms, the building structure remained relatively intact, although some metal sheeting was missing.

Ngaliyan Police Chief, Kompol Aliet Alphard, stated that the explosion originated from the factory’s production room. At the time, several employees were carrying out production activities.

"The explosion was in the production room. At that time, employees were producing, then perhaps due to the hot weather and other factors, it suddenly exploded and caught fire," he said.
