I had the opportunity to test this unit for several days for daily use in the city. Based on the driving impressions, there are several crucial points regarding the advantages that make it a selling point, but there are also minor points that prospective consumers should pay attention to.
The sensitivity of the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) also provides a greater sense of security, although the driver is still expected to always be vigilant and maintain full control of the steering wheel. The 360-degree camera and parking camera also produce fairly sharp images, providing security and peace of mind when passing through narrow streets or when parking.
One of the most memorable things when I first tested this car in the middle of the day in Jakarta was the performance of its cabin cooling system (AC). The Wuling Cortez Darion EV has a very cold AC, which is a major plus for consumers in Indonesia.
However, behind the comfort and completeness of its features, I also found several points that felt less ergonomic and required more adaptation from the user’s side.
The entertainment and connectivity sector is the first minor note. When we tried to connect a smartphone to the car’s head unit system, the process felt quite difficult. I have tried connecting it via a wireless Bluetooth connection and using a data cable (wired). Unfortunately, the system still cannot connect smoothly; only the audio can connect. For modern consumers who rely heavily on digital mapping (navigation) from their phones while driving, this synchronisation issue is quite disruptive to the journey.
The top-of-the-line Wuling Cortez Darion EV is actually equipped with a premium feature in the form of ventilated seats. The presence of this feature clearly enhances passenger comfort so that their backs do not sweat during long journeys. However, unfortunately, this luxury feature is only available for the second-row seats (captain seats). The driver and front passenger cannot yet enjoy this facility. In addition to its limited distribution, the operation of the ventilated seat is also considered less practical. There are no physical buttons near the seat to turn it on or off. Passengers or the driver must enter a tiered menu within the main touchscreen on the dashboard to adjust the seat’s airflow. This step feels cumbersome, especially if the settings need to be changed while the car is moving.
The Wuling Cortez Darion EV offers a very attractive family electric MPV package thanks to its complete ADAS and exceptional cabin cooling system. However, the user-unfriendly connectivity and the operation of cabin features that are too centred on the main screen are points that should be considered before you choose it.
