YOGYAKARTA – As the 2026 Lebaran mudik traffic surge approaches, several new toll road sections are being prepared to help ease vehicle congestion. One section attracting particular attention is the Prambanan–Purwomartani functional toll road, which will operate temporarily to support mobility for mudik travellers in the Yogyakarta and Central Java regions.

Before its official commissioning, the Trans Java 2026 team had the opportunity to test the toll section directly, from the Prambanan toll gate to the Purwomartani toll gate. This route represents an important addition to the Solo–Yogyakarta toll corridor, expected to help distribute vehicle traffic during the mudik season.

The functional toll road is scheduled to open from 16 March to 29 March 2026. However, its operation will be limited, functioning only from 06:00 to 18:00 WIB during this period. Nevertheless, toll road management has delegated operational decisions during the Lebaran mudik to police discretion.

Upon entering the functional toll section from the Prambanan toll gate, drivers immediately experience a toll road still in completion stages. Whilst some basic facilities are already in place, they remain incomplete. For instance, street lighting has not been fully installed along the entire route, and road markings are still incomplete at several points.

Vehicle speed is also subject to strict limits. Toll management has recommended a maximum speed of 40 kilometres per hour to ensure user safety during functional operation. At several segments, road conditions are not yet perfectly connected, with the road surface still consisting of compacted sand.

Nevertheless, the route remains passable for vehicles with relative comfort, provided drivers observe the speed limit and exercise caution. Mudik travellers should note that traffic regulations on this toll section include special provisions. The Prambanan–Purwomartani section is dedicated to vehicles exiting Yogyakarta towards the Trans Java toll network. With this arrangement, toll management hopes to prevent conflicting traffic flows in the Prambanan area, enabling smoother and safer travel for mudik travellers during the Lebaran period.
