Bali International Hospital (BIH) and Sunsuria Healthcare have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore strategic collaboration in the development of orthopaedic services, including the potential establishment of an Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence at Bali International Hospital in Bali, Indonesia. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to bringing specialised orthopaedic expertise and international-standard clinical practices closer to the Indonesian people.

For years, many Indonesian patients have travelled abroad to access advanced orthopaedic services, such as joint replacements, sports medicine, trauma management, rehabilitation, and various other specialised musculoskeletal treatments. Through this proposed collaboration, BIH and Sundisuria Healthcare aim to provide high-quality, more accessible orthopaedic services domestically while maintaining international standards of clinical excellence.

Sunsuria Healthcare has developed specialised healthcare capabilities in Malaysia, serving both domestic and international patients through a multidisciplinary, patient-focused approach. Their experience in delivering specialised clinical services and developing healthcare capabilities provides a strong foundation for the collaboration with BIH. The proposed partnership will evaluate various opportunities to develop comprehensive orthopaedic services, facilitate knowledge transfer, strengthen clinical excellence, and support collaboration between healthcare professionals from both organisations.

By combining international expertise with Indonesian clinical talent, this initiative is expected to strengthen local competence and support the long-term development of specialised orthopaedic services in Indonesia. The collaboration will also explore opportunities for technology transfer, specialist doctor training, and the implementation of cutting-edge clinical practices to support sustainable growth in the sector.

Located within the Sanur Health Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Bali International Hospital was established to provide international-standard healthcare services closer to the Indonesian public while supporting the national health sector transformation agenda. The planned Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence aligns with BIH’s mission to build a world-class healthcare ecosystem that benefits both Indonesian and international patients.

“This collaboration is an important step in our efforts to strengthen orthopaedic services in Indonesia through international partnerships and the development of healthcare capabilities,” said Dr Noel Yeo, President Director & Chief Executive Officer of Bali International Hospital.

“For a long time, many Indonesians have viewed travelling abroad as the primary option for obtaining specialised healthcare. Through partnerships like this, we want to strengthen domestic capabilities, support the development of Indonesian healthcare professionals, and expand access to world-class orthopaedic services without the need to travel overseas.”

Audrey Ooi, Chief Executive Officer of Sunsuria Healthcare, stated that the company welcomes the opportunity for collaboration that can contribute to the development of specialised healthcare services in the region. “We believe that the most meaningful healthcare partnerships are those capable of leaving sustainable capabilities. Through this collaboration with Bali International Hospital, we wish to contribute through international expertise, the latest health technology, specialist training, and global best practices that can help strengthen the orthopaedic ecosystem in Indonesia. Beyond providing high-quality services to patients, our shared ambition is to support knowledge transfer and professional development that will benefit healthcare workers and patients in the long term,” she said.

The signing of the MoU marks the beginning of a joint evaluation and planning phase. Both organisations will work together to assess the feasibility of this initiative, develop clinical and operational frameworks, and identify various future cooperation opportunities. This partnership further strengthens BIH’s growing international collaboration network and supports its ambition to build various international-standard Centres of Excellence, aimed at enhancing healthcare capabilities in Indonesia, reducing the need for medical tourism abroad, and strengthening Bali’s position as a premier destination for healthcare and medical tourism in Southeast Asia.
