Exploring Spices and Culture through the Ternate & Tidore Thematic Programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) - To commemorate Earth Day while welcoming Vesak Day, a thematic programme titled “Discover The Natural Treasures: Ternate & Tidore” is being held for over a month, from 20 April to 31 May 2026, with the main theme of harmony between humans, nature, and culture.
The event at Hotel Borobudur in Jakarta offers a comprehensive experience combining elements of history, culture, cuisine, and investment opportunities from North Maluku.
“Through this activity, we hope not only to increase tourist visits but also to attract investors to see the great potential possessed by Ternate and Tidore,” said Mayor of Ternate M Tauhid Soleman in his statement in Jakarta on Friday.
Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor of Tidore Ahmad Laiman highlighted the importance of maintaining a balance between economic development and environmental preservation.
“Tidore has vast forest areas and rich biodiversity that must be protected as an alternative to the exploitation of natural resources,” said Laiman.
On the same occasion, Director of Marketing Communication at Hotel Borobudur Karina Eva Poetry revealed that the programme is part of a sustainable initiative to support Indonesian tourism through cultural, educational, and creative economy approaches.
“Through this programme, we want to invite the public to better understand Indonesia’s wealth, not only as a tourist destination but also as a source of cultural inspiration and life values,” said Karina.
Through a diverse and meaningful series of activities, “Discover The Natural Treasures: Ternate & Tidore” embodies real synergy between cultural preservation, tourism development, and environmental care in driving regional economic growth.
Additionally, a talkshow session is held to discuss the history of the spice route, its connection to cultural heritage, and the spiritual values of Borobudur Temple as a world heritage site.
During the programme, visitors can enjoy various interesting agendas, one of which is the Ternate & Tidore Culinary Presentation at Bogor Cafe, available every working day. Spice-based buffet dishes are prepared directly by cooks from the region, offering authentic flavours starting from Rp498,000 per person.
In addition, there are other activities such as the Business & Investment Forum on 24 April, cultural and spice route history discussions, Diaspora Youth Gathering on 26 April, and the Ternate & Tidore People’s Festival scheduled for 24 May 2026.
As part of the Earth Day environmental campaign, the programme also features the performance “Mermaid & Merman Indonesia: The Spirit of the Archipelago,” a collaboration with Yayasan El John Indonesia. This performance carries a strong message about the importance of preserving Indonesia’s seas and maritime ecosystems.
Towards the closing of the event series, in the spirit of Vesak, a meditation activity is held on 7 June 2026, in collaboration with Yayasan Ehipassiko. Additionally, an infographic exhibition on the history of Borobudur Temple is displayed in the hotel lobby as a reflection of spiritual and cultural values.
Hotel Borobudur Jakarta also offers a special stay package titled “Borobudur Serenity Stay” valid from 24 May to 7 June 2026. This package offers various facilities, including breakfast, yoga and meditation sessions, entry tickets to Borobudur Temple, souvenirs, and other additional services.
