Jakarta (ANTARA) - An informatics expert from Binus University, Prof Tuga Mauritsius, has introduced a new generation Decision Support System (DSS) concept based on artificial intelligence to bridge the gap between data insights and strategic policy-making in response to technological developments.

Tuga highlighted that many organisations often feel uncertain despite having highly accurate predictions from AI technology. This is because conventional DSS tends to be reactive and limited to descriptive analysis, failing to guide organisations towards truly optimal decisions.

“In this context, the conventional DSS approach is still reactive and confined to descriptive analysis, without systematically directing optimal and impactful decisions,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Therefore, Tuga introduced the New Generation DSS concept that combines three main pillars: predictive analysis through machine learning, scenario analysis, and system dynamics to simulate policy impacts in complex systems.

Through the integration of these three elements, the quality of analysis will increase dramatically and strengthen decision-makers’ ability to understand the long-term consequences of each policy to be issued.

Tuga explained that this system is designed not to stop at questions about what will happen in the future, but to rapidly evolve into providing policy recommendations on what should be done.

This transformation also marks a shift from mere decision support to decision intelligence, which requires collaboration between data processors, data scientists, and policymakers.

Through this work, Tuga has been inaugurated as a permanent full professor in the field of DSS with a scientific oration titled “A New Generation of Decision Support System: Integrating Machine Learning, Scenario Analysis, and System Dynamics”.

The Rector of Binus University, Dr. Nelly, stated that this inauguration is part of Binus University’s commitment to providing an excellent and impactful academic ecosystem.

“The inauguration of a full professor is not just an individual achievement, but also reflects the institution’s commitment to fostering strategic thinking that can address global challenges. We believe Prof. Tuga’s contributions will further strengthen Binus University’s role in producing relevant and applicable research,” said Nelly.
