Expert Highlights "Treasure Trove" That Must Not Be Lost in Hayam Wuruk Online Gambling Case

Cybersecurity expert from Vaksincom, Alfons Tanujaya, has highlighted a “treasure trove” that must not be lost in the case of the online gambling (judol) headquarters in Hayam Wuruk. First, regarding the use of advertising data in the form of SMS or social media ads operated from the judol headquarters. “Second, after being contacted, to play (judol), they are told to make a deposit, okay, where to deposit? To the bank. We already have two pieces of data,” he said during the Kompas.com Newsroom Chat event on Monday (11/5/2026). Third, victims are given the website address used to play online gambling. Law enforcement, in this case the police, can immediately act on these three pieces of data while seeking assistance from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) in tracing judol funds. The police can also directly track the mobile phone numbers used by the perpetrators to spam ads to victims’ numbers. Alfons stated that the police cannot work alone but need support from other institutions and agencies. For example, regarding foreign nationals as perpetrators, coordination with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is needed. “So we hope there is a task force team. Don’t go it alone, you won’t be able to win,” he said. The Hayam Wuruk judol headquarters case was uncovered after the National Police arrested 321 people related to international online gambling crimes on Saturday (9/5/2026). Then, on Sunday, the National Police announced that 320 of them were foreign nationals (WNA) and their detention was handed over to the Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas). Meanwhile, one other is an Indonesian citizen (WNI) and is being further processed at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri).
