The Board of Professors at Binus University has asserted that technology, specifically Artificial Intelligence (AI), must be directed towards strengthening human life rather than replacing it.

The Chairman of the Binus University Board of Professors, Prof. Harjante Prabowo, stated in Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday, that AI should not be limited to mere application usage but should serve as a component of transformation in life, education, industry, creativity, governance, law, and national strategy.

“AI must be utilised in a more meaningful, ethical, and responsible manner to support human life, strengthen the quality of Human Resources (HR), drive productivity, and expand positive impacts for society and the nation,” said Prof. Harjanto.

He emphasised the vital role of higher education institutions in providing thought, solutions, and tangible contributions to the wider community. Consequently, the university has introduced the “AI for Life” concept amidst rapid developments that are influencing various aspects of life.

He noted that AI is not merely about technological sophistication, but about how technology can be directed to improve the quality of human life, expand access, create opportunities, protect society, and support national development.

“In this era of new intelligence, leadership and collaboration are key to ensuring AI provides broader benefits. Technology cannot stand alone without direction, values, and responsibility. Therefore, universities play a crucial role in building literacy, ethics, research, talent, and policies capable of making AI a force for life,” he asserted.

“AI for Life is an invitation for us to not only pursue technological progress but also to ensure that such technology brings real benefits to humans and Indonesia,” added Prof. Harjanto.

Prof. Firdaus Alamsjah added that AI needs to be utilised to increase productivity, strengthen the quality of decision-making, build new capabilities, and create innovations that impact industry and society.

“Organisations, industries, and educational institutions need to move from AI adoption towards AI transformation—moving from merely using technology to being able to create value through technology,” he said.
