Expert: Asset Forfeiture Authority Must Be Held by a Trusted Institution

Advocate and legal observer Shri Hardjuno Wiwoho has reminded that the extensive powers in the Asset Forfeiture Bill must be exercised by credible institutions and officials. Oversight is needed to prevent abuse of authority in asset handling.

“What is most important and must be safeguarded by the DPR is that the people in the authorised institution must truly be trustworthy,” Hardjuno said whilst presenting his views at a Public Hearing (RDPU) with Commission III of the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday (7/9/2026).

Before the leadership and members of Commission III of the DPR, he said the public’s call for the Asset Forfeiture Bill to be passed promptly arises from society’s anger over corruption and various cases of abuse of power. This situation, he said, demonstrates the importance of restoring public trust in law enforcement.
