Expert Assesses TNI Demonstrates Professionalism in Uncovering Andrie Yunus Case
Jakarta - A legal expert, Margarito Kamis, assesses that the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) have demonstrated professionalism and obedience to the President’s orders in uncovering the acid attack case against Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus.
He stated that this step aligns with the instructions from President Prabowo Subianto, who emphasised the importance of investigating the case openly and thoroughly.
“This deserves appreciation because, in fact, the uncovering was carried out quickly and clearly,” Margarito said in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to him, the uncovering by the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom) shows the institution’s commitment to firmly addressing alleged violations, including those involving internal members.
Thus, he said, this affirms the integrity and courage of the institution in upholding the honour of the law.
“In fact, it was the TNI apparatus itself that uncovered it because the alleged perpetrator is also from within,” he stated.
Therefore, Margarito continued, what is most important now is not which institution uncovered it, but how the perpetrators can be found and processed legally.
Furthermore, he emphasised that in a democratic rule-of-law state, the main aspect to uphold is the professionalism of law enforcement apparatus.
He stated that accuracy, speed, and firmness in enforcing the law are important indicators that must be met by every state institution.
“The most fundamental thing is that the institution is able to carry out its function professionally. Accuracy, speed, obedience, and firmness in enforcing the law are the most important,” Margarito emphasised.
He also reminded the public not to get caught up in debates about which party uncovered the case, but to focus on the substance of law enforcement.
In his view, the success of the state lies in how far the apparatus works according to the legal mandate given.
With this quick and transparent step, the TNI is assessed to have shown strong commitment in supporting fair and accountable law enforcement, while strengthening public trust in state institutions.
Previously, Puspom TNI detained four TNI personnel suspected of involvement in the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus.
“Now, these four suspected suspects have been secured at Puspom TNI for further investigation to the prosecution level,” said Commander of Puspom TNI Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3).
The four individuals detained by Puspom TNI are TNI members serving at the Headquarters Detachment of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (Denma BAIS) TNI. The four perpetrators are initialled NDP, SL, BWH, and ES.
Nevertheless, Yusri could not yet provide the motive for the acid attack as the examination process is still ongoing.
