The work-from-home (WFH) policy is being implemented every Friday for civil servants (ASN). Public policy expert from the Faculty of Administration at Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Prof Andy Fefta Wijaya, explains that WFH is a reasonable policy for saving energy.

“If we look at the projected benefits, WFH one day a week could be a quite reasonable step for now,” said Andy to reporters on Tuesday (2/4/2026).

He also suggested that certain types of ASN could be increased to WFH for two days. This is an exception for ASN in public services.

“However, for functional types of ASN, it could even be increased to two days, except for ASN in public services who require their presence in the office due to the limited digital infrastructure for public services,” he stated.

He said that WFH could save national energy and provide work flexibility. WFH is also seen as able to reduce congestion.

“With WFH, the government can save national energy, increase work flexibility, and encourage work digitalisation. In addition, WFH can also help reduce traffic congestion and air pollution,” he explained.

As is known, the government has set a work-from-home policy for civil servants (ASN) every Friday. This work scheme is implemented as a response to the impact of the Middle East conflict.

“The implementation of work from home for ASN in central and regional agencies carried out one working day per week, namely every Friday,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, in a press conference on Tuesday (31/3) evening.
