Expensive Sriwijaya Underpass in Cimahi City Vandalised

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIMAHI – The Sriwijaya underpass in Cimahi City, West Java, has become the target of vandalism. The walls of the tunnel have been covered with graffiti and drawings by irresponsible individuals.

When Republika visited the location on Sunday (17/5/2026), the walls of the underpass were filled with writing and drawings using spray paint. The striking scribbles contrast with the newly repainted colour of the walls, also damaging the aesthetics of the area which is one of the vital connecting routes in Cimahi City.

The vandalism on the Sriwijaya Underpass has received various responses from passing motorists. Whisnu Sodikun (34 years old) said that this act of defacing government assets was very unfortunate.

“Yes, it is certainly a pity that the underpass, which was built at great expense, has been scribbled on. Instead of being beautiful, it damages the aesthetics in my opinion,” he said.

According to him, the government should tighten supervision by installing CCTV cameras. Whisnu admitted that the existence of the Sriwijaya Underpass is very vital for reducing traffic congestion in the area.

“I almost pass through this underpass every day when I go to work. Hopefully, the vandalism will be cleaned up soon and there will be no more random scribbles in the future,” he said.
