Expensive Penalty for Adulterous Couple in Gunungkidul: Building a 200-Metre Road

A couple in Karangnongko, Ngloro, Saptosari, Gunungkidul were caught by residents engaging in a secret relationship. The residents then imposed a sanction on them in the form of purchasing materials for the construction of a 200-metre RT road.

This was revealed by Jogoboyo (Security Section) of Kalurahan Ngloro, Aris Setyawan. He said the incident began during an RT meeting at the end of April 2026. Suddenly, one of the meeting participants, a man with initials P, left the meeting location.

“Ten minutes later, a woman with initials S followed him out of the meeting room,” said Aris when contacted by reporters on Monday (4/5/2026).

Residents became suspicious because the two did not return to the meeting place. This led to a search for them.

“When searched at his house, P was not there, then the residents continued the search to S’s house and found them there,” said Aris.

Upon learning this, residents waited for the two to leave S’s house. After quite a while, the two finally emerged from S’s house.

“The residents waited for about an hour, and finally the two came out,” Aris stated.

The pair were then taken to the local RT head’s house. From the clarification, they admitted to having a secret relationship.

“Finally, after deliberation, the residents agreed to impose a social sanction of 10 dumps of sand and 200 sacks of cement for the construction of the neighbourhood RT road,” Aris explained.

Aris said the sanction was intended to create a deterrent effect for the two. Additionally, to keep the atmosphere conducive and prevent the issue from dragging on.

“The main goal of the agreement is to create a deterrent effect while maintaining environmental harmony. The important thing is that residents remain harmonious, the issue is resolved, and it does not drag on,” he said.

According to Aris, the two have fulfilled their sanction. The construction of the 200-metre RT road has now been completed.

“It has been (carried out by P and S), and it is already finished at the RT level,” he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the name of the road built from the adulterous couple’s sanction, RT 10 Head Tugiman said there is no special name.

“No, it is not given any road name, just like this,” said RT 10 Head of Karangnongko, Tugiman, when met at his residence in Ngloro, Saptosari, Gunungkidul, on Tuesday (5/5).

According to Tugiman, the most important thing is that the community’s sanction against the adulterous couple has been fulfilled. Considering that the sanction is the result of a community agreement.

Based on observations by detikJogja on Tuesday (5/5), bamboo was seen placed across the RT 10 road. A cement mixer was near the cross-placed bamboo, and equipment for smoothing the cement mixture on the road from wooden materials was still lying on the roadside.

Several pieces of wood were placed on the cement road. This served as a marker that the cement was not yet fully dry. Piles of sand were also still visible at the RT 10 road junction. However, no workers were present at the location.

Tugiman explained that the RT road work began on Sunday (3/5). The road repair work took two days.

“The road work started from Sunday to Monday and finished on Monday afternoon,” he said.

According to one resident who declined to be named, he said he was pleased with the road improvement near his house. Given that the road’s condition was previously severely damaged.

“I also joined the gotong royong yesterday, if asked whether I’m happy the road is being repaired, yes, I’m happy. Because this road was previously badly damaged,” he said.
