Expats donate Rp 884 million
JAKARTA: The Women's International Club (WIC) distributed on
Thursday some Rp 186 million (US$20,667) of the Rp 884 million it
collected in last October's charity bazaar to 15 beneficiaries in
the capital.
Among other beneficiaries, two individuals received artificial
legs, three foundations got building renovations, two nursing
homes were given jet water pumps and two foundations for
handicapped children received three and six wheelchairs
respectively. A school for the handicapped was also given
guitars, flutes, sports gear and a refrigerator.
Some Rp 350 million will fund several institutions supported
by WIC, including five orphanages, one care home and two senior
citizen homes, as well as tuition aid for 250 handicapped
children and 250 poor children.
From the bazaar proceeds, WIC awarded Rp 170 million as two-
year scholarships to 120 university students.
The remainder of the proceeds was set aside for emergency
funds.
Through WIC, Deutsche Bank has also distributed Rp 70 million
for school tuition and books to 55 needy children of YPI An-Nur
elementary school in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta. The funds will
also be used for teacher training and the renovation of school
facilities. -- JP
