PT Daya aIntiguna Yasa Tbk (MR. D.I.Y. Indonesia/MDIY) is realising its sustainable commitment to supporting education and community empowerment, particularly for students. Through the MR. D.I.Y. for Indonesia programme, MDIY has launched “Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators”, an initiative focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)-based learning to encourage interactive education and skill development for pupils.

As the first STEM initiative presented by a home improvement retailer in Indonesia, this programme is designed to deliver enjoyable, interactive, and practical learning experiences, thereby stimulating curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and solution-oriented abilities from an early age.

Through creative project assembly to problem-solving-based simulations, students are invited to learn hands-on and understand concepts in a more contextual manner. MDIY Indonesia’s President Director, Edwin Cheah, stated that MR. D.I.Y. Indonesia believes access should be the foundation, whether for everyday essential products or relevant learning opportunities.

“Through ‘Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators’, we aim to bring accessible and enjoyable STEM learning experiences to more children across various regions of Indonesia. This is part of our commitment to growing together with Indonesian families, by opening wider access for the future generation to learn, experiment, and develop,” Edwin explained in an official statement on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

It is worth noting that on 10 April 2026, this initiative began in Waingapu, East Sumba, as a priority development area (3T), marking MDIY Indonesia’s initial step in supporting the expansion of relevant and applicable STEM education access. East Sumba represents many developing regions in eastern Indonesia that are the focus of national development, particularly in the education sector.

Amid efforts to equalise access, relevant and practical STEM learning can complement the evolving education ecosystem in those areas. The “Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators” initiative involved 341 students from 10 schools in East Sumba, with support from the SUKA Indonesia Foundation to ensure programme implementation that is relevant to local needs and provides positive impacts for both students and educators.

“Looking ahead, we want to continue expanding the reach of this initiative so that more children across various regions of Indonesia can experience interactive and relevant learning. For us, this is not a short-term initiative, but part of our sustainable commitment to opening wider access so that every child has space to learn, try, and grow,” Edwin concluded.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Regent of East Sumba, Yonathan Hani, explained the added value brought by “Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators” to strengthening the education ecosystem in East Sumba.

“We see that interactive and practical-based learning approaches are becoming increasingly important to complement the learning process in schools. Initiatives like ‘Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators’ from MR. D.I.Y. Indonesia provide different experiences for students, so they not only understand theory but also try and explore directly. This can help increase learning interest while strengthening relevant skills for the future,” he clarified.

Continuing the implementation in East Sumba, MR. D.I.Y. Indonesia is expanding the reach of “Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators” to Jakarta, targeting 2,000 students from 10 schools, supported by Indonesia Mengajar. This step reinforces the company’s commitment to supporting equitable access to quality education at the national level and aligns with the government’s focus on strengthening STEM learning implementation to create a globally competitive Indonesian generation.

The “Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators” initiative is part of the “MR. D.I.Y. for Indonesia” programme, an umbrella for the company’s long-term social activities in creating positive impacts for society.

In addition to focusing on education, this programme is also oriented towards empowering children and improving local community welfare, emphasising MR. D.I.Y. Indonesia’s role not only as a home improvement retailer but also as a partner for Indonesian families in supporting children’s learning, creativity, and development.
