Expanding into Central Asia, EGI Resources Develops Indonesian-Themed Hotel in Samarkand
EGI Resources has officially expanded its business steps into the Central Asian region by entering the property and hospitality sector in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. This expansion focuses on developing a religious tourism destination that is rapidly growing in the area.
This strategic move is marked by the signing of two cooperation agreements at the Uzbekistan-Indonesia Cooperation Forum 2026 held in Jakarta. The initiative includes the construction of a new hotel as well as the acquisition of existing property assets.
In the development project, EGI Foods and Beverages LLC has partnered with Hamkorbank to build an international-standard hotel in the Imam Bukhari Mausoleum complex area, which is known as one of the main pilgrimage centres in Central Asia.
Additionally, through the entity ARSLAN AIR LLC, EGI Resources has also acquired a hotel asset owned by Trastbank JSC. The property will be revitalised with a new concept that highlights Indonesian cultural identity.
CEO of EGI Resources, Erslan Gazali Ibrahim, stated that the developed hotel will bear the name “Hotel Kampoeng Indonesia” with an international service concept combined with typical Indonesian hospitality. “We present this concept to provide a different experience for tourists, especially in the developing religious destination,” he said.
From the bilateral relations perspective, this project has also received support from the local government. This is reflected in the presence of the Governor of Samarkand A.M. Boboyev and the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Indonesia Oybek Eshonov at the signing of the cooperation.
EGI Resources management assesses that this expansion not only opens new business opportunities but also has the potential to strengthen investment flows between Indonesia and Uzbekistan, particularly in the tourism and lifestyle sectors.
Looking ahead, the company is optimistic that the development of an integrated religious tourism ecosystem in Samarkand will become a strategic entry point for Indonesian business players to expand their footprint in international markets.
