Expanding Access to Free Eye Examinations for the Community
JEC Eye Hospitals and Clinics and Syafana Islamic School Expand Access to Free Eye Examinations
Continuing the spirit of World Sight Day 2026, the collaboration offers eye examinations, vision-health education and free glasses to 250–300 participants.
JAKARTA — The need for eye examinations remains a concern across different age groups. According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Health, of around 55 million people aged over seven who underwent eye-health screening in 2025, about 17 per cent were found to have a vision impairment.
These impairments include myopia (short-sightedness), hypermetropia (long-sightedness) and astigmatism, which can disrupt daily activities if not identified and treated appropriately. The findings highlight the importance of detecting vision problems early, including through examinations that are readily accessible to the public.
In response, JEC Eye Hospitals and Clinics has partnered with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of Syafana Islamic School Secondary to organise a free eye examination community service programme. Held at Syafana Islamic School’s Secondary Campus in Lengkong Kulon, Pagedangan District, Tangerang Regency, the event was attended by 300 participants.
