Existence of DDT as Solution to Prevent KAJJ-KRL Collisions in East Bekasi
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Former Commissioner of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI, Riza Primadi, is convinced that the existence of the Double Double Track (DDT) serves as the main solution to prevent accidents such as the one at Bekasi Timur Station in West Java on Monday (27/4). “For collisions between long-distance trains (KAJJ) and KRL, I am 100 percent certain it will not happen, as the tracks are different. They will not share the same line,” said Riza when contacted in Jakarta on Sunday. According to Riza, separating the tracks between KRL and long-distance trains is a crucial step to eliminate the potential for collisions. He explained that the risk has arisen because two types of trains with different characteristics share the same track. KRL stops at many stations, while KAJJ travels at high speed and only stops at certain points. In such conditions, he assesses that the potential for long-distance trains to catch up or “tail” the KRL is very high. “There will be no story of a KAJJ tailing behind a KRL or vice versa,” he stated. Therefore, Riza views the construction of the DDT from Manggarai to Cikarang as designed to address this issue. However, its implementation is not yet fully completed. “I urge the acceleration of the DDT project completion as a permanent solution to improve railway travel safety in dense areas like Bekasi and surroundings,” he said. Meanwhile, transportation expert Ki Darmaningtyas considers the existence of DDT very important to ensure railway travel safety, especially on busy lines. “Regarding its urgency, it is certainly urgent; each must have its own track,” said Darmaningtyas. He added that building separate tracks is part of long-term measures to improve safety and reliability of railway travel. “It is hoped that once the double-double track project is completed, there will be no more disruptions,” he stated.
