Exhumation Begins, Forensic Team Collects Samples from Sutrimo's Body

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police carried out the exhumation of Sutrimo’s body in Banyumas today. Police involved a number of experts in the exhumation process. “Today’s exhumation is part of the investigation process. This activity was carried out through collaboration between the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, the Central Java Police, and the Banyumas Police,” said the Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, to reporters on Wednesday (12/8/2026). The exhumation process began at around 09.30 WIB. Budi stated that the exhumation was conducted in three stages: the excavation of the grave, an external examination to confirm the identity of the body as requested by investigators, and an internal examination. “We invite the public and media colleagues to give space for empathy to the family of the deceased. Please pray that the entire process runs smoothly and can help shed light on this case,” said Budi. The examination involved a joint team from the Indonesian Forensic and Medicolegal Doctors Association (PDFMI) from Jakarta, Central Java, and East Java. The team also included forensic laboratory, toxicology, DNA, and anatomical histopathology experts. The Chairperson of PDFMI, Brigadier General Dr Sumy Hastry Purwanti, said that various experts were involved in the exhumation process. This is necessary so that the examination can be carried out thoroughly and the results have a strong scientific basis. “In addition to forensic and medicolegal specialists, we involved forensic laboratory, toxicology, DNA, and anatomical histopathology experts. We are working thoroughly and comprehensively based on the results of medical and laboratory examinations,” said Sumy Hastry. The forensic team examined the condition of the grave, the type and contour of the soil, the size of the grave, and took soil samples from around the site. Samples from the body will also be examined in the laboratory to help determine the cause and manner of death. “We cannot immediately conclude the results of the examination because the samples taken still need to be analysed in the laboratory. This examination is expected to help explain whether the death was natural or unnatural,” she explained. Sutrimo was found unconscious on Thursday (23/7). The victim was subsequently taken by ambulance to Muhammadiyah Taman Puring Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival. Based on circulating information, the victim was found with foam at the mouth. The victim was reportedly the head of household affairs for former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah. However, the police are still investigating the identity of the victim.
