Exhibition in homage to Widayat

MAGELANG, Central Java: To commemorate the anniversary of the
late maestro Widayat's birthday, the management of the Museum
Haji Widayat in Mungkid, Magelang, Central Java, is to hold a
two-week painting exhibition here.

Widayat was born on March 9, 1919, and died on June 2, 2002.

Titled "Reading Widayat's World", the exhibition is scheduled
to be officially opened on March 13 by senior artist G. Sidharta
Soegijo. Some 80 artists, mostly young ones, are expected to
participate in the exhibition.

"The exhibition is also intended to help us read and interpret
Widayat as an artist," said the maestro's son, Pungky

Pungky also said that the participants in the exhibition would
hopefully be able to present works of art that could widen the
public's perspective and understanding of Widayat, including
various aspects of his life, thoughts and work.

"We hope the public will gain different perspectives as
regards further appreciation of Widayat and his work," Pungky
