Exhibition and 'Rebahan at Stovia' Held at the National Awakening Museum

Jakarta — An exhibition of paintings, a display of artillery, and the activation of the ‘Rebahan di Stovia’ programme were held at the National Museum of Awakening in Central Jakarta as part of the 2026 National Awakening Day commemorations.

The temporary SciArt 8.0 painting exhibition, running from Wednesday until 30 May 2026, features 80 scholarly paintings by Paul Hendro as a tribute to thinkers and scientists who have contributed to the development of science and the national awakening.

The National Museum of Awakening also presents an exhibition displaying 165 cannons from the collection of Joseph L. Spartz, a Luxembourg philanthropist who settled in Indonesia.

Indira Estiyanti Nurjadin, Head of the Museum and Cultural Heritage (MCB), said that the Joseph L. Spartz cannon collection will be donated to the MCB for public display at the museum.

In addition to the exhibitions, the museum is carrying out the ‘Rebahan di Stovia’ programme to tell the stories of students at the dormitory of the indigenous doctors’ education school (School tot Opleiding van Inlandsche Artsen/Stovia) in the past.

As part of the programme, audio devices presenting stories about the school’s students during that era are installed on the beds in the Stovia Dormitory Room at the National Museum of Awakening.

The building now housing the National Museum of Awakening was formerly the Stovia medical school, birthplace of Boedi Oetomo on 20 May 1908. Boedi Oetomo is known as Indonesia’s first modern organisation.

The exhibitions and programmes held as part of National Awakening Day at the National Museum of Awakening are hoped to stimulate the spirit to rise and advance.

‘We hope to contribute to fostering unity and progress. All programmes scheduled are intended to ensure the values of national awakening remain alive and felt as relevant by today’s generation,’ Esti said.

Residents wishing to enjoy the museum’s exhibitions and programmes can visit Tuesday to Sunday from 08:00 to 16:00 WIB.

Entrance tickets are Rp5,000 for adults, Rp3,000 for children aged 3–12, and Rp25,000 for foreign tourists.
