Exercising Amid the Crowds at Jakarta's CFD, Purbaya: Economic Indicators Are Just Fine
Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa spent his weekend engaging in light exercise in the Car Free Day (CFD) area in Jakarta on Sunday morning, 10 May 2026.
The event, routinely held in various major cities across Indonesia, is seen as one indicator that public economic activity is running smoothly.
Wearing a sports jacket with an 8 per cent logo, a grey T-shirt, training trousers, and casual sports shoes, Purbaya appeared to walk leisurely and occasionally jog lightly in the Jalan Jenderal Sudirman area.
Purbaya’s presence drew the attention of residents. Several members of the public were seen engaging in conversation, taking photos together, and creating content about healthy lifestyles and exercise.
Purbaya admitted that he occasionally joins CFD activities, even long before taking office as Finance Minister.
“Work-life balance, right? Work hard, but don’t forget to rest enough. Don’t work continuously; it has to be balanced,” Purbaya said in his statement on Sunday, 10 May 2026.
“This is just once in a while. When I’m bored at home, I go for a walk at the car free day. I’ve always liked strolling around, even if not regularly,” he added.
According to Purbaya, the crowded public activities at CFD demonstrate a healthy economic circulation.
“I’m also monitoring the crowds and public economic activity. This is one indicator that our economy is doing just fine,” Purbaya stated.
He assured that the government, under President Prabowo’s leadership, continues to intensively monitor national economic developments. According to him, any signs of economic weakening are immediately discussed to find solutions through various policies and stimuli.
“I see it’s now busier compared to a few months or a year ago. Although it’s not yet very crowded, the economy still needs to be continuously encouraged,” Purbaya said.
“We are preparing several stimuli in June to make the economy move even better,” he added.
