Excuse of Dimas Who Murdered and Robbed Online Taxi Driver in Tangerang Over Wedding Costs

Police have revealed the excuse given by Rahmat Dimas for murdering and robbing an online taxi driver, identified by the initials ATP, in the Kosambi area of Tangerang Regency, Banten. The suspect claimed he was desperate for money to cover wedding expenses. “The suspect’s motive, during our interrogation, was that he was under pressure in his life because his parents were forcing him to get married immediately,” said Commissioner Arief Ryzki Wicaksana, Head of Unit V of the Resmob Sub-Directorate at the Metro Jaya Police Criminal Investigation Directorate, in a statement on Tuesday (14/7/2026). The suspect claimed he was carrying a knife with the intention of ending his own life. However, Arief continued, when the suspect passed the location, he saw the victim sleeping, which led to the intention to commit theft. “But on his journey, he saw someone sleeping, namely the victim, and next to him was an unguarded motorcycle. He then wanted to steal the motorcycle,” he said. “After seeing the victim was fast asleep, the suspect tried to reach into the victim’s pocket to take the motorcycle key. When the suspect was taking the key from the victim’s pocket, the victim woke up and fought back, so the suspect stabbed the victim in the body,” he added. The murder of the online taxi driver occurred on Sunday (12/7) at around 3:50 a.m. Western Indonesian Time in the Villa Taman Bandara housing complex, Dadap, Kosambi, Tangerang Regency. Police revealed that the suspect, Rahmat Dimas, resisted arrest and had to be shot. “He also fled the crime scene and his residence. He resisted the officers who were arresting and pursuing him, so we from the Metro Jaya Police Resmob Sub-Directorate took firm, measured action against the suspect,” said Commissioner Arief Ryzki Wicaksana to reporters on Tuesday (14/7). The suspect was arrested on Tuesday (14/7) at 12:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time in a rented room on Jalan Bunderan Kamal, Kamal Muara, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. From a video received by detikcom, the suspect’s leg appeared to be bandaged when he was brought to the Metro Jaya Police headquarters.
