Excerpts of the presidential dialog:
1. On Aceh Governor Abdullah Puteh, who has been named a graft
suspect:
-- Megawati: To ensure the continuance of the administration and
public services, he should be declared nonactive.
-- Amien: He has to be declared nonactive as soon as possible.
The people of Aceh are waiting to see whether Jakarta has the
guts to uphold the law.
2. On unemployment:
-- Hasyim: Over the next five years the economy will absorb 13
million new workers, while the number of people living in poverty
will be reduced by 45 percent.
-- Amien: We will focus on the construction sector. In housing,
if one house requires eight workers, we can employ about eight
million people in that area alone. We also plan to provide credit
facilities to some 40 million micro-businesses.
3. On investment:
-- Amien: The priority is the legal system, which continues to
create uncertainty, apart from security.
-- Megawati: There are still lots of foreign investors coming to
Indonesia. Only recently, I heard that beer maker San Miguel will
be entering Indonesia.
