Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung will provide free public transportation in Jakarta during Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. The policy is designed to facilitate resident mobility whilst encouraging the public to celebrate Eid in the capital.

“During Eid al-Fitr, we will provide free transportation available in Jakarta,” said Pramono at Bundaran HI in Central Jakarta on Friday (27 February 2026).

Public transportation in Jakarta includes Transjakarta, LRT and MRT. Pramono stated that this policy forms part of the Jakarta Ramadan Festival series with the theme “Homecoming to Jakarta.” The Jakarta provincial government wants the public to take advantage of various facilities available in Jakarta during Ramadan and Eid.

“Why are we doing this? Again, rather than traffic congestion or shopping abroad and so on, it is better to stay in Jakarta. Jakarta provides everything,” he said.

Pramono emphasised that free transportation facilities can also be utilised by people coming to Jakarta during Eid. The Jakarta provincial government will ensure that transportation services and security run optimally during the holiday period.

“When migrants come to Jakarta, certainly we will provide convenience. Will the free transportation also apply to migrants when they take advantage of Eid? We will provide it,” he explained.

Nevertheless, the Jakarta provincial government is still providing a free homecoming programme for residents wishing to return to their hometowns. A total of 690 buses have been prepared to transport approximately 26,500 migrants to various destinations.

Pramono added that the Jakarta provincial government has experience managing various major events, so it is optimistic that transportation services and security during Eid can run smoothly.

“We are confident that Jakarta is accustomed to hosting major events, so for security we will certainly do our utmost,” he said.
