Excelcomindo to provide wireless Net

JAKARTA (JP): PT Excelcomindo, Indonesia's third largest mobile carrier, will use the Openwave (TM) Mobile Access Gateway to provide the first wireless Internet service in Indonesia on its GSM networks using a complete solution comprised of all WAP- based infrastructure components and applications.

Openwave Systems Inc., the worldwide leader of open IP-based communications infrastructure software and applications, announced on Thursday that the new service, branded as "proXL W@P," enables Excelcomindo's excelcom(TM) subscribers to access a broad range of WAP-based wireless Internet services, including email, personal information management services, such as personal organizers and calendaring functions, as well as sports scores, weather forecasts and driving directions.

The service also provides such localized content as financial news through IndoExchange and Makindo CyberTrade, search capabilities through LycosAsia and Yahoo!, travel and reservation services through Trvlwap.com, package tracking services through DHL and FedEx, and entertainment information, the California- based company said in a statement.

Excelcomindo chose the Openwave solution for its scalability and carrier-grade reliability. Using this WAP platform, Excelcomindo has the flexibility to accommodate new applications and growth, while leading the charge in the Indonesian wireless Internet market.
