The government, through the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation, once again organised the Free Motorcycle (Motis) programme for Eid 2026. The programme aims to reduce the number of two-wheeled Eid returnees or motorcyclists on highways and redirect them to the safer and more comfortable mode of train transportation. Director of Railway Traffic and Transport Arif Anwar expressed gratitude that the Motis programme was enthusiastically welcomed by the public and ran smoothly. “From the total quota we provided of 11,900 motorcycle units, the transport realisation reached 12,419 units or 104.36% of the target. This realisation does not include contraflow transport which reached 1,304 motorcycle units that we still served even though it was not included in the target realisation,” he said in a written statement received by Kompas.com on Tuesday (31/3/2026). Arif stated that this achievement reflects the high enthusiasm and trust of the public in the Motis programme as a safe, comfortable, and efficient Eid travel solution. “In the future, we hope that the Motis programme quota can continue to be increased so that its benefits can be more widely felt by the public,” he revealed. With a regular motorcycle transport departure schedule, the public receives certainty of time and premium service. For example, the Southern Motis Train departing at dawn at 04.50 from Jakarta Gudang. Not only about the numbers, DJKA is committed to continuously maintaining service quality, from the registration period (1-29 March 2026) to the handover of motorcycle units at the destination station. Arif said that his side will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the 2026 Motis implementation as part of efforts to improve service quality. He explained that the evaluation covers all stages, from programme socialisation, registration process both online and offline, services at posts, data verification, packaging process, transport by train, to handover of motorcycles at the destination location. Arif emphasised that the success of the 2026 Motis programme is inseparable from the synergy between the government, operators, supporting partners, and all stakeholders. In addition, the compliance of the participating public who actively followed the Motis programme, including adhering to procedures, also contributed to the operational plan’s success. “The synergy that has been built is the key to the success of this year’s Motis implementation, and we are committed to continuing to present a better programme in the future,” he concluded.
